Hello and welcome to day 12 of the recipe advent! We’re halfway through, wahooo! I’ve got biscuits coming out of my ears, but I’m not mad about it. Today we’re making Zimtsterne, aka cinnamon stars. I vividly remember getting a Lebkuchen selection box every Christmas as a child - every single biscuit in the box was an absolute delight, and the Zimtsterne were one of my favourites. You can’t go wrong with a soft, nutty biscuit covered in a layer of crisp meringue.
These biscuits come together fairly quickly and are naturally gluten-free! The only part that is a little tricky is the icing, but I’ve included two options, I’d say that if you’re comfortable with a piping bag then piping is probably slightly less messy but dipping is faster so just use whichever suits you best.
One thing worth noting is that this recipe doesn’t work very well in smaller quantities, the meringue just doesn’t aerate properly, but I can’t see why you’d need less than 30 of these biscuits anyway!
