Hello and welcome to week 6 of our GBBO bake along! This week was autumn week in the tent and I actually really liked all of the bakes but it feels like it’s been forever since I did a cake recipe so I decided that this week for the bake along I’d do a just that, a parsnip, honey & brown butter cake to be exact! This cake is like a carrot cake’s older, more sophisticated sister, but we’ll get onto the cake later. For now let’s chat about the show.

Signature

I hate to admit it, but I'm not really a huge fan of sweet pies, especially the deep flakey pastry style of pie, perhaps I’ve just never had a really good one. I’m endlessly intrigued by the idea of pumpkin pie and I’ve made and eaten several but I don’t think it’s for me, maybe my tastebuds are just too British, however this is definitely something that I want to revisit, I’m sure my perfect pumpkin pie is out there!

Technical

If you’ve never had Parkin, please make some immediately! It’s a like a lovely ginger cake but with oats. I thought that this was quite an easy challenge and they all looked pretty good apart from poor Gill’s but who hasn’t left baking powder of a cake at one point!? I certainly have.

Showstopper

I loved this challenge, I’m a carrot cake girlie through and through and have a lot of time for root veg cakes. They all sounded pretty delicious to me although I was slightly bemused by Nelly’s spinach and avocado cake, I wish she’s picked more mainstream flavours.
