Hello and welcome to day 3 of the Recipe Advent! Today we’re making pfeffernüsse aka those Christmas biscuits you get in Aldi or Lidl. Pfeffernüsse or peppernuts are small spiced biscuits similar to classic gingerbread, they’re slightly softer and more cakey and as the name would suggest, flavoured with pepper.
Traditionally pfeffernüsse are coated with a thin layer of crunchy royal icing, icing sugar or chocolate, since this is already quite a chocolate-heavy week, I’ve gone with royal icing but if chocolate is calling your name, go for it!
To stay on theme, I’ve included instructions to turn these pfeffernüsse into little toadstools, these look SO cute and they’re actually not too much of a pain to make (unlike some of my other recipes haha) but if you want to keep them classic just don’t bother with the stalks or red food colouring.
